FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Legendary Hip Hop and Classical Genre Busting Performers Come to San Luis Obispo!

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA – They have been sought out for collaboration by the likes of P. Diddy, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Aretha Franklin and The Eagles. They have been featured on The Tonight Show, Ellen, The Wendy Williams Show, ESPN, and NPR. Their most recent album,  Stereotypes, hit #1 on Billboard’s Classical Crossover chart and #4 on Billboard’s R&B Chart. Now Black Violin is set to seamlessly blend the worlds of Hip Hop and Classical music in San Luis Obispo and this one-night-only stage performance must be seen to be believed!

Black Violin uses their unique blend of classical and hip-hop music to overcome stereotypes while encouraging people of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds to join together to break down cultural barriers.

Pulling their name from inspirational jazz violinist Stuff Smith, Black Violin is composed of Wil Baptiste on the viola and Kev Marcus on the violin. Originally being forced to take classical music lessons to keep them out of trouble, these two performers quickly discovered that music was the perfect outlet to channel their energy, sharing their raw emotions through their songs and stage shows.

Jazz, hip-hop, funk, and classical are all ingredients of Black Violin's unique fusion of hip-hop and classical sounds. You don't have to be a big fan of classical music or Hip Hop to enjoy all that Black Violin has to offer, as this group of two classically trained violinists and their DJ are redefining the music world - one string at a time.

Student and adult tickets for the performance range from $32 - $65 and may be purchased in advance at the Cal Poly Ticket Office, Monday – Saturday, noon to 6 p.m., located on Grand Avenue on the Cal Poly campus; by phone at 805/756-4849; online at www.calpolyarts.org.
